A piston supercharger which can be driven by the exhaust gas pulses of an internal combustion engine, which supercharger has at least one expansion chamber, defined by a movable working piston (12) and respectively provided with at least one exhaust inlet (20) and one exhaust outlet (22), the exhaust inlet being provided with a valve (30), controllable in time with the exhaust gas pulses and at least partially opening and closing its flow cross-section, to which valve an actuating mechanism (32) is assigned, which as drive element has a displacement element (38) actuatable by the exhaust gas pulses, the arrangement being contrived in such a way that the valve (30) can be shifted into its closed position when a pressure acts on the displacement element (38). <IMAGE>
