The quality measuring system removes particles from compressed sample cubes of feedstuff by conveying the cubes using air. The particles are removed by friction. The particles are separated from the cubes by controlling the magnitude of the flow of air. The sample cubes are released into an inlet hopper (128) and fall into a collection zone at the bottom of a tube. Air is forced (131) up through the collection zone and up through the tube. The cubes bounce around in the collection zone and the particles knocked off are carried up the tube. The air flow can be increased to drive the cubes up the tube, down into the hopper and back to the collection zone, and so on. Rods (138) may lie across the tube to aid the break-up of the cubes. |
