PURPOSE:To provide the title coating agent having excellent heat resistance, adhesion, etc., containing a copolyester consisting of an acid component mainly composed of terephthalic acid and a glycol component contg. a specified diol as a main component. CONSTITUTION:An acid component (A) composed of at least 60mol% of an arom. dicarboxylic acid, wherein 20-95mol% of the arom. dicarboxylic acid is terephthalic acid, is polycondensed with a glycol component (B) contg. 5-50mol% of a diol of the formula (wherein m is a number of 0-4 and R is ethylene, propylene or butylene) to produce a copolyester having a glass transition point of not lower than 55 deg.C. The copolyester is used as a principal ingredient and a solvent, a filler, etc., are added thereto to obtain the desired coating agent comprising to copolyester. The coating agent is suitable for use as paint and in coating cans, films, etc.
