NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I [X is H or halogen; Y is H or nitroso; A is group of formula II (R is halogen, lower alkyl or nitro; n is 0-2), benzyl, pnenetyl, naphthyl, etc.]. EXAMPLE:4-Phenoxy-N-t-butylaniline. USE:Herbicide. PREPARATION:A compound of formula I wherein Y is H can be produced by reacting the compound of formula III with t-butyl alcohol at 80-250 deg.C. The reaction is carried out usually in the absence of catalyst at 80-250 deg.C for 1-30hr using 1-30mol of t-butyl alcohol per 1mol of aniline hydrochloride. Another compound of formula I wherein Y is nitroso is obtained by the nitrosation reaction of the above compound of formula I wherein Y is H.
