PURPOSE:To enable production of a roll, etc. having a composite wear resistant layer consisting of ceramics and a metal on the surface by forming a layer consisting of ceramic particles and consumable binder on the inside surface of a centrifugal casting die and casting centrifugally a molten metal while rotating the die. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic powder layer 4 consisting of 50mum-1mm. particles of hard ceramics which are oxide such as SiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2 or the like, carbide such as TiC, SiC or the like or nitride such as TiN, Si3N4 or the like mixed with 2-6 consumable binders such as a thermosetting resin or thermoplastic resin is formed on the inside surface of a cylindrical die 1 for centrifugal casting to 1-5mm. thickness. While such die 1 is rotated at a high speed by rollers 3, the melt of high-grade cast iron, ductile cast iron, alloy cast iron, cast steel, etc. is centrifugally cast therein. The binder in the layer 4 is burned and consumed by the high temp. of the molten metal and the molten metal penetrates into the space thus formed and solidifies by which the roll having the hard composite ceramics-metal layer having excellent wear resistance is produced. |
