In a reel handling process, particularly in connection with an equipment for the dyeing of such reels, orderly arranged reels are withdrawn and mechanically slipped onto the rods of dyeing baskets; after the dyeing the reels are mechanically drawn from the dyeing baskets and placed on a basket for centrifugation. A handling system comprises a loading and/or unloading apparatus (76) for loading and/or unloading the reels on rods of a dyeing basket (130) and for placing separating discs between the reels; and if it is the case an applying apparatus for clamping devices.
