PURPOSE:To shorten the full length of speed changing gears and increase the number of speed change steps by shifting a counter shaft gear which is distributed on a pair of counter shafts, by means of a pair of dog clutches. CONSTITUTION:A dog clutch 27 which serves to change gears to the first speed position and the second gear position is disposed between the first speed counter shaft gear 18 and the second speed counter shaft gear 19 of a first counter shaft 13a. Another dog clutch 28 which serves to change gears to the third speed position and the fourth gear position is disposed between the third speed counter shaft gear 20 and the fourth speed counter shaft gear 21 of the second counter shaft 13b. These dog clutches 26, 27 and 28 are operated by a shift fork. Since the gears can be reduced in breadth by the width of two gears, the speed changing positions of the gears can be increased.
