PURPOSE:To stabilize tracking performance for a long period by vapor- depositing carbon on a glass substrate and forming a carbon layer, and depositing metal or a metallic compound on the surface of the carbon layer in a specific pattern, then burning away the carbon exposed surface. CONSTITUTION:The carbon layer is vapor-deposited on the glass substrate 11 firstly. The surface of the carbon layer is exposed to metal containing gas, and scanned with specific heat rays in a specific pattern or irradiated through a masking material having the specific pattern. An acid-proof reactive product is deposited on the carbon layer irradiated with the heat rays by the reaction of the metal containing gas itself or reaction with carbon. Then the glass substrate 11 is heated at about 500 deg.C in the presence of oxygen to burn away the heat-ray unirradiated part of the carbon layer. Amorphous alloy is adhered to the surface of this rugged part by vapor deposition or sputtering to form a thin magnetic layer. Thus, high-precision tracking is performed and chemical stability against the reaction product of the metal containing gas is obtained for a long period. |
