A heat pump functioning according to the cold vapour method is driven by a supercharged internal combustion engine. A heat exchanger for condensate undercooling is connected into the suction branch of the internal combustion engine. The charging pump raises the fresh gases drawn in to a higher temperature level, from where they are recooled into the cooling water by a large-dimension charging air cooler, as a result of which this high-grade heat can be fed into the heating installation. The overall performance number rises.
