PURPOSE:To reduce a change in the photographic performance of a photosensitive silver halide material due to a change in the pH of a developer and to obtain a contrasty developed image free from a silver stain by processing the silver halide photographic sensitive material contg. a specified hydrazine deriv. with a water soluble alkali developer of a specified pH contg. specified components. CONSTITUTION:The halide photographic sensitive material contg. the hydrazine deriv. represented by the formula R1-NHNH-CHO (where R1 is optionally substituted aryl) is processed with the water soluble alkali developer of 10.5-12.3pH contg. a dihydroxybenzene system developing agent (1), a p-aminophenol system developing agent (2), >=0.3mol/l sulfurous acid preservative (3), 0.05-0.30mol/l alkanolamine (4) represented by the formula (C2H5)2NR2 (where R2 is 2-10C hydroxyalkyl) and 10<-4>-10<-2>mol/l mercapto compound (5) represented by the formula (where each of M1 and M2 is H, an alkali metallic atom or ammonium). A change in the photographic performance of the silver halide photographic sensitive material due to a change in the pH of the developer is reduced by combinedly using said developing agents, and the material can be stabilized to various processing conditions.
