Compounds of the general fomula (wherein R<1> represents a chlorine atom or an amino group, n is 0 or 1, R<2> represents a pentanoyl, hexanoyl, 2-carboxypropionyl or benzyl group when n is 0 or R<2> represents a hydrogen atom or C1_6 alkanoyl group when n is 1) have been found to have valuable antiviral properties particularly against viruses of the herpes family such as herpes simplex.
