PURPOSE:To perform water elutriation (sepn.) with the separating accuracy approximately equal to the sepn. accuracy of screening and with large treating capacity by admitting material to be treated into a cyclone through the inflow port thereof then admitting clean water into the cyclone and washing the inside of a coarse-grain tank below the cyclone. CONSTITUTION:The material to be treated supplied to a circulating tank 9 or 10 through a material-to-be-treated selector valve from a material-to-be-treated tank 7 is supplied to a llquid cyclone 2 after said material past a circulation selector valve is adjusted in the flow rate. The fine-grain material dispersed from an overflow riser 6 is returned to the circulating tank, by which the material is circulated for specified time. A clean water selector valve is changed over to supply clean water into the cyclone 2 to discharge the fine-grain material in the cyclone 2 and a coarse-grain tank 4 to the circulating tank. The coarse- grain material is discharged into a coarse-grain tank 17 when a coarse grain discharged valve 5 is opened upon lapse of specified time.
