PURPOSE:To make a display easy to see even when an original picture and an explanation written in mixed KANA (Japanese syllabary) and KANJI, (chinese characters) by reproducing a character pattern and a picture from tracks in which a KANA character string and a picture are recorded and composing the two. CONSTITUTION:A KANA character string is recorded in the first track and corresponding picture is recorded in the second track. The same applies to the third and fourth tracks. When reproducing a desired picture, for instance, the first track is reproduced and signals before demodulation of the KANA character string are sent to a demodulation section 500. Output of the demodulation section 500 is sent to a KANA storing section 207, and all or the KANA character string are stored. A KANA-KANJI converting section 202 converts the KANA in the storing section 207 to KANA and a character string mixed with KANJI for one track is sent to a picture composing section 300. On the other hand, a video disk section 100 reproduces a picture in the second track and sends to the picture composing section 300. There, the picture is composed with a character pattern generated on the basis of above-mentioned KANA character string mixed KANJI and displayed in a CRT400. When necessary, it is made to a KANA character string only by command from a keyboard 206.
