Keratinous fibrous material is simultaneously dyed and bleached at elevated temperatures using nonalkaline dye liquors containing wool dyes which are stable to peroxy compounds and any dye-bath assistants required, the dye liquor also containing hydrogen peroxide and/or performic acid in amounts equivalent to 0.7 to 10g/litre of active oxygen and 2 to 30 times the weight of active oxygen, of a polyphosphate. The term "polyphosphates" is defined as being salts of phosphorous acids containing two or more phosphorous atoms arranged linearly or in a network, and includes disodium dihydrogen pyrophosphate, tetraalkali metal pyrophosphates, alkali metal tripolyphosphates, tetrapolyphosphates and heptapolyphosphates. The Examples describe the application of the above dye liquors to wool. The Specification also refers to the simultaneous brightening or antifelting of the fabric during the dyeing process. |
