In a ring-trough mixer having a fixed trough (1), the mixing tools such as kneading bars (3), paddles (4) etc. rotate. For the purpose of measuring the moisture or temperature of the material being mixed, sensors (6, 6') are provided in the bottom or the wall of the trough (1). A swirler (9) which is connected, via a bracket (7) with a central rotating drive (2) for the mixing tools (3, 4, 9), is used to mix the material being mixed at an optimum rate. Temperature and humidity of the swirled material being mixed are detected in an optimum manner by the sensor (6, 6') disposed in the effective range of the swirler (9). A paddle (4) ensures that the surface of the sensor (6, 6') remains free. <IMAGE>
