PURPOSE:To read signal charge perfectly and to prevent generation of after- image phenomenon by making a transfer gate conductive during vertical blanking period and repeating plural times action of transferring a vertical charge transfer register by one step. CONSTITUTION:Plural vertical shift registers 10, a photoelectric conversion section 11 adjoining to one side of the register 10 and separated electrically, a transfer gate 12 that controls signal charge transfer between the register 10 and the conversion section 11 and a horizontal shift register 13 are provided in the charge transfer image pickup device. Transfer gate pulse 18 is applied to the gate 12 of the transfer pickup device during vertical blanking period. This pulse 18 is made to the first and second transfer gate pulses 21, 22, and vertical transfer pulses 19, 20 are applied to allow the register 10 to transfer by one step during t1 application of the pulse 18. Thus, signal charge is read out perfectly, and generation of after-image phenomenon is prevented. |
