A ventilating device (4) for arrangement on walls (1) of buildings is to have a construction in which, while a high sound-damping effect is obtained, the air stream is directed parallel to the plane of the wall. A sound-absorbing channel (25', 25''), which has air passage openings (26 and 34', 34'') arranged mutually offset in the longitudinal direction in opposite walls (19 and 33', 33''), of which at least one is connected to the external air through a perforation in the building wall, runs in a square housing, parallel to the plane of the wall. A subsidiary chamber (37) is accommodated in the housing to the side of the sound absorbing-channel (25', 25'') and is provided with an air outlet (38 and 39) in each of two walls which are mutually at right angles. Moreover, the housing has a connecting channel (36) extending over its whole length and into which open an air passage of the subsidiary chamber (37) and at least one air passage opening (26) of the sound-absorbing channel (25', 25''). <IMAGE>
