PURPOSE:To obtain an alloy member having a long cutting life, by coating the surface of a sintered hard alloy substrate contg. the carbide or the like of a IVa group metal or the like in the periodic table as a hard dispersed phase and an iron group metal as a binding phase with the carbide or the like of a IVa group metal and the composite nitride or the like of Si and Al in the form of layers each having a specified thickness. CONSTITUTION:A sintered hard alloy substrate is composed of a hard dispersed phase consisting of >=1 kind of compound selected from the carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides of the IVa, Va and VIa group metals in the periodic table and a binding phase consisting of >=1 kind of iron group metal or >=1 kind of iron group metal and >=1 kind of metal selected from the Cr group metals and Al. A single layer of 1 kind of component selected from the carbides, nitrides and oxides of the IVa group metals and solid solns. of >=2 kinds of such compounds or a multiple layer of >=2 kinds of such components is formed on the surface of the substrate as an intermediate layer having 0.5-20.0mum thickness, and a single layer of the composite nitride or carbonitride of Si and Al, a double layer of the composite nitride and carbonitride, or a layer of a mixture of them is formed on the intermediate layer as a hard layer having 0.5-20.0mum thickness. |
