The invention can be used on drilling and milling machines having a head which is held on guides of its support by means of combined adjusting/guide units. The aim of the invention is to arrange the adjustment of the spindle tilt in such a way that it is easy to control and to improve the running properties of the head. The object of the invention is to provide a device which works with rolling friction and permits adaptation to the surface inclination caused by spindle tilt. This is achieved by the combined adjusting/guide unit in each case consisting of a special regulating element and a rolling-body circulating guide element. Each of the regulating elements used contains two layers of rolling bodies, the layer thickness of which corresponds to the distance between the supporting outer surfaces of the regulating element. The layer thickness and thus the size of the tilt changes by displacement of the rolling bodies. In addition, the layer thickness is set differently in accordance with the loading, as a result of which the outer surfaces incline towards one another.
