1,205,490. Defibrating apparatus. H. H. BURKHARDT, H. M. KURTZ and M. KURTZ [trading as HERMANN FINCKH, METALLTUCH - UND MASCHINENFABRIK]. 15 May, 1968 [22 June, 1967], No. 23061/68. Heading B2A. [Also in Division D2] A machine for opening up fibrous material comprises a casing, tangential feed 15b, and discharge, 15c, connections in the casing, an impeller wheel, 14, mounted for high-speed rotation within the casing, the cavity containing the wheel being only slightly wider than the wheel itself, the portion of the periphery of the wheel extending from the feed to the discharge connections forming, with the periphery of the cavity, a gap, through which the material flows in the direction of rotation of the wheel, a plurality of spaced-apart insert elements being mounted in the gap, the elements being wedgeshaped, and increasing in thickness in the direction of flow, there being a minimum radial gap width of at least 10 mm. The surfaces of the casing and inserts may be roughened, and the impeller wheel may be provided with teeth 14b. The minimum gap, X, is preferably such that the flow velocity at this minimum gap is 100 times greater than that adjacent the feed connection 15b. The wheel is preferably driven at such a speed that the flow velocity is increased from 1m./sec to the feedconnection to 100-120 m./sec. at the narrowest part of the flow passage. The maximum value preferred for X is 25 m.m.
|
