PURPOSE:To obtain quartz glass for light transmission fiber element having a fixed loss characteristics regardless of wave lengths by the procedure in which SiO2 fine particles for the manufacture of fiber are produced by a H2-O2 flame and at the same time a metal oxide of Fe, etc., is uniformly crystallized within said fine particles by controlling the partial pressure of the metal oxide. CONSTITUTION:SiO2 fine particles for fiber are crystallized and deposited on the base material 11, e.g., quartz bar, etc., from a hydrolyzable compound, SiO2, by means of the H2-O2 flame from the burner 12, and at the same time several ppm order of a metal oxide of Fe, Ni, etc., e.g., FeCl3, is uniformly crystallized or solid- soluted on or within the SiO2 fine particles by introduction the said metal oxide from the burner 13 while controlling its partial pressure at a fixed value by diluting it with He, etc., and by causing a chemical reaction of it at a high temperature. Thus, a quartz glass doped with Fe, etc., for light transmission fiber element which can maintain a fixed loss characteristic of 50dB/km or less within the wave length range of at least 0.6-1mum can be obtained. |
