The present invention relates to novel bicyclic ether carbonates of the formula <IMAGE> in which R and R' are methyl or ethyl, to a process for the preparation thereof from ditrimethylolalkanes by reaction with a carbonic acid derivative, to the preparation of a crosslinked polycarbonate therefrom, and to the depolymerisation thereof, and to the use of the novel ether carbonates as copolymerisation components in the preparation of polycarbonates.
