摘要 <p>An appts. for generating and distributing heat during the shrinking of a shrunk object comprises heat carriers (transfer devices) of highly thermally conducting material. The heat generators (6) contain chemical reagents and are housed in tubes (5) parallel to the axis of the article to be shrunk (cable sleeve 1) and perpendicular to the direction of shrinking. The quantity of chemical reagent is correct for producing the right amt. of heat. The tubes (5) are mounted on undulating or corrugated heat distribution plates (3,4) which change their shape during the shrinking operation to maintain contact with the shrunk sleeve (1). Pref., the heat generator is a sulphur-iron powder mixt. The heat carriers (5) may be mounted on the surface of the sleeve or embedded in it. In partic. for the thermal shrinking of sleeves, caps and the like onto an article; in the example shown, the shrinking of a sleeve (1,12) onto a cable (2). The arrangement enables a uniform distribution of heat to be achieved without the use of propane burners and the like and excessive heat production in certain regions.</p>
