The rear axle assembly (1) for a vehicle comprises laterally inclined longitudinal wheel (5) support members (4) fixed to a transverse torsion bar (2) whose ends are secured to the vehicle body. The members are connected via longitudinal arms (3) pivoted to the bar (2). On each side of the vehicle, the member (4) and the arm (3) are so arranged that, during unequal spring motion, the central portion (13) of the bar (2) acts as a stabiliser. During equal spring motion, the end portions (14) of the bar (2) act as torsion springs. The arm (3) and member (4) preferably form a triangular support which swivels about an (inclined) axis (10).
