The invention relates to an electric motor having a single drive-side bearing plate, which is to be attached to a wall of an apparatus, especially to the base of a washing-up machine, and on which a stator laminate stack is held whose winding forms winding overhangs which project in an annular shape on both sides, and having a rotor which is supported on one side and is arranged inside the stator, on whose unsupported side mechanically stiff fan blades are arranged which extend axially approximately to the end region of the winding overhang, an annular disc-shaped protective cap being attached to the end of the fan blades, which protective cap extends radially from the fan blades beyond the winding overhang.
