The system produces holes in thin-walled ceramic plates. The plate (1) is clamped at both sides along the periphery of the hole to be produced, and then perforated. Where a pointed hammer is used for making the hole, the clamp can comprise a section of pipe (3) and a washer (4), both of the same cross-section, mounted on the free ends of a tongs-type body (5), typically of sheet steel bent into a U-shape (6, 7). A hard rubber washer can be fixed to the underside of the washer (4).
