Lap-winding thermoplastics composite tape about a steel pipe - so that the width of overlap exceeds that of inner component ply

A pipe, esp. a steel pipe, is wound about with a thermoplastic single band extruded form a wide-slot die, whilst the pipe is rotating. It is lap-wound around the tape. The band is built-up from inner ply and an outer ply which are arranged side-by-side. The width of the overlap of the windings on the (steel) pipe is greater than the width of the inner ply.
