<p>device for external or internal chamfering the edges of a hollow glass or similar article which is first flattened perpendicularly to its axis, comprises >=1 tool which can be applied under a predetermined and controllable "elastic" pressure against the edge of the glass when the glass is rotated about its axis with the axis vertical. The working tool is a rigid rotary grinder having an annular abrasive surface, straight, concave an (pref.) in the shape of a (truncated) cone which can be applied on the outer or the inner edge of the flattened glass surface. The is mounted on a horizontal rotary shaft so that the longitudinal axis inects the vertical axis of the glass. The grinding tool is vertically displaceably with the rotary shaft under the control of a follower applied under elastic pressure on the surface of the rotating glass so that the grinder grids the edge longentially following the defects in smoothness in the edge of the glass and the 'out-of-time' trajectory of the periphery (ovalisation). The whole of the surface of the grinding tool is used unlike in prior art. when abrasive strips became locally worn and required frequent replacement. Inaccuracies in the glass shape are accommodated.</p> |
