The mortice lock has vertical transmission rods (9) to secondary horizontal bolts at the head and foot of the door (1). The rods locate in vertical alignment in the edge (2) of the door and are housed in hollow section guides. The guides are let into channels cut in the edge of the door to obtain a contiguous plane surface. The guide (8) augments the strength of the door and eliminates air-ways. The guide may be of a rectangular hollow section with the rods of rectangular section. The major faces of the guide may have openings for the bolts and lock-housings, and the guide may be fixed by screws at the top and bottom and intermediate points.
