The switch has a pulse chamber followed by a quenching chamber. The pulse chamber has a high pressure vessel with a blow-out valve in the form of a differential piston pneumatically holding itself. The blow-out valve is directly operated by a tripping pulse of an electromagnetic trip. It is pneumatically amplified by the differential piston and operates the valve. The quenching gas pulse drives a movable contact, and the pulse chamber is followed by a quenching chamber with diverging conductors and cooling elements between them. The quenching gas pulse drives the arc between them for its extension and extinguishing.
