The plug or socket consists of contact pins or sockets set into the end of spacers made of insulating plastic, and an injection moulded or pressed housing made of insulating plastic. Both spacers and housing are elastic. The spacers have caps that cover the wire connections and the bared part of the wires. Each cap screens its wire connection from the side of the housing and is hinged to the spacer so that it can pivot to expose the connection for soldering etc. The hinge consists of a thin piece of material and may be towards the outside or the inside of the assembly.
