A high power density synchronous machine is disclosed comprising: a stat or having conventional stator coils arranged in an annulus around a vacuum cylindrical cavity; a magnetically saturated cylindrical magnetic solid rotor core; a ra ce- track super-conducting coil winding extending around the rotor core, and a coil supportextending through the core and attaching to opposite long sides of th e coil winding.
