Preparation of compounds of general formula (I) and acid addition salts thereof. - where R, R1 and R2 = H, Cl, F, CF3, (1-4C) alkyl or alkoxy, but two of the substituents from R, R1 and R2 adjacent to each other may not be trifluoromethyl, and R1 = H, Cl or F, R or R2 = CF3. R3, R4 and R5 = H, Cl, F and R6 = H or F, but of the substituents R3, R4, R5 and R6 is not = than two is not =H, and of the substituents R to R6 inclusive, is not > three is not =H. - The compounds are appetite depressants and CNS stimulants. 5-hydroxy-5-(4'-chlorophenyl)-2,3-dihydro-5H-imidazo-(2,1-a)-isoi- ndole, m.p. 198-201 deg.C. USAB- US3910947 A PRepn. of imidazo (2,1a) isoindoles of formula (I) is claimed. Method comprises reducing cpd. of formula (II) in inert solvent under inert atmos. with LiAlH4 at 45-85 deg.C. - R, R1, R2 are each H, Cl, F, linear alkyl, linear alkoxy or CF3. Provisos are that there is never CF3 on adjacent C and when R and R2 are both CF3 R1 is H, Cl or F. R3-R5 are each H, Cl or F, R6 is H orF. Not more than 2 of R3-R6 are other than H, and not more than three of R-R6 are other than H. - 17 cpds. are specifically prepd., including 5-(p-chlorophenyl)-2,3-di hydro-5H-imidazo(2,1-a)isoindole. |
