Raq slurry e.g. clay suspension is coarsely filtered in a pre-filter and then fed via a distributor head to the upper section of an inclined filter bed. The filter cloth is pref. supported on a thick elastic porous cellular bed and is fed continuously to the filtration zone from an upper store roller. The particulate matter is collected at a lower channel, the liquid traverses the filter cloth to a lower reservoir. The filter bed is inclined to the horizontal to give a gravity feed to the lower sections.
