A battery-charger (1) is supplied with current from a mains transformer (5) via a rectifier (7) and a controller (9) which is adjusted (17) by a computer (19) processing the digitised (21) signal from an NTC resistor (13) installed at the hottest point on the surface (11) of the transformer. Table look-up gives the actual surface temp. for comparison with a stored max. value. The control enables the transformer to be operated at max. output irrespective of the ambient temp. USE/ADVANTAGE - With transformers and motors, simple and inexpensive self-checking appts. allows full utilisation of rated power.
