The optical cable includes at least one optical fibre ribbon (8) comprising multiple fibres (9) lying in one plane. At least one protective tape (14) runs parallel to the broad side (11) of the optical fibre ribbon. A cable sheath (2) surrounds the optical fibre ribbon and the protective tape. One or more optical fibre ribbons may be arranged between two protective tapes. At least one optical fibre ribbon may be arranged above and one below the protective tape. The width of the protective tape is larger than that of the optical fibre ribbon.
