PURPOSE: To provide a cleaning device constituted so that residual toner is successively eliminated from an electric charge holding surface by using plural cleaning blades. CONSTITUTION: The cleaning device is provided with a multi-turret type blade holder so that the individual blades 12 are selectively assigned at an optimum position for cleaning a moving photoreceptor 26. The blade holder is constituted by including many cleaning blades 12 radially installed from the center. Then, when the holder is rotated by prescribed degree (360 deg.÷the number of cleaning blades on the holder), the new cleaning blade is assigned at a cleaning position in order to be exchanged for the worn blade 12. When a supporting arm 18a is turned in a direction shown by an arrow 60 because a cam 58 is rotated, a pin 44 is made to abut on a pawl 46 and relatively moved in a direction shown by an arrow 54. Therefore, the turret type holder is rotated by a prescribed angle when the cam 58 is rotated once and the next blade is made to correspond to the electric charge holding surface 26.
