PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable correct operation of printing of recording paper without the paper being slanted or distorted and carried into a printing mechanism in this state, even in the case when the recording paper is fed manually to a printing apparatus to be printed. SOLUTION: A black fore-end non-detection bar (a) which is not detected by a paper sensor (A)13 on the occasion when recording paper P is inserted manually from a recording paper insertion-discharge opening is provided for the fore end of the recording paper P, in a width corresponding to a distance D between the position of the paper sensor (A)13 and the position where the paper is held in by a carrying roller. After the fore end of the recording paper P reaches the position where it is held in by the carrying roller and after a prescribed time Tc passes from the time when a white fore-end detection margin (b) provided next to the fore-end non-detection bar (a) is detected as reflecting (white) '1' by the paper sensor (A)13, the carrying roller is rotated and carrying of the recording paper P into a printer part is started.
