PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus which prevents the adhesion of paper powder to a nozzle hole by a simpler constitution, and which hardly causes a deterioration in ink ejection performance and a decrease in working efficiency. SOLUTION: A control portion provided in an inkjet printer, is equipped with a measuring portion for measuring the number N of pieces of recording paper, associated with the amount of recording on the paper. A nozzle surface is cleaned by a maintenance unit in the state in which a section between the nozzle surface and a platen is set as a predetermined gap. After that, at the coming of predetermined timing when the number N exceeds a predetermined value N1, a gap adjusting mechanism is operated so that the distance of the gap d can be changed into a longer distance d+α.
