PURPOSE:To smoothly discharge slag into a lock hopper, by providing a pressure equalizing line which connects a lock hopper to an ash cooling hopper, filling the lock hopper with a pressurized gas and releasing the gas into the ash cooling hopper at the time of transferring slag. CONSTITUTION:A molten slag 2 contained in a gasifying oven 1 is fed into an ash cooling hopper 3 where the molten slag is quenched to form a granulated slag 4. A pressurized gas is introduced through a feeding line 19 into a lock hopper 12. A main valve for gas 20 is closed, and a pressure equalizing valve 21 is opened to equalize the pressure of the hopper 3 to that of the hopper 12 through a pressure equalizing line 23. Lock valves 7, 8 are opened, a slag crusher 9 and a rotary valve 10 are operated, and a sealing valve 11 is opened to release the gas in the hopper 12 through the line 23 into the hopper 3, while slag 4 is discharged into the hopper 12. Valves 7, 8, 11, a high pressure water feeding main valve 17, a water main valve 18 for jetting and the valve 21 are closed, while a blow valve 22 is opened to reduce the pressure of the hopper 12. Sealing valves 13, 14 are opened to discharge the slag through a jet propulsion pump 15 outside the system.
