PURPOSE:To obtain a digitally reproduced signal accurate in pulse width by providing a means to control the slice level of a comparator while using a pulse width detected by a pulse width detecting circuit. CONSTITUTION:A first comparator 113 to convert an analog reproduced signal from an information recording medium into a digital signal, a means 101 to detect the inversion time interval of digital signals being converted by the comparator, a means 105 to compare thus detected inversion time interval with a reference inversion time interval, and the means 106-110 that control the slice level of a second comparator 111 which converts an analog reproduced signal from the information recording medium depending on the result of the comparison are provided on the titled device. When the pulse width of a thus reproduced digital signal is narrower or wider than a desired pulse width, the difference between them is detected, and the slice level of the comparator is controlled depending on this difference. In such a way, a digital signal having a desired pulse width can be reproduced.
