The present invention provides an apparatus and a method to guide exercise, to recommend the most effective exercise item to a user. According to the present invention, the method comprises the following steps: acquiring information about a genetic type of a user with respect to each gene; acquiring frequency information of each genetic type in a player group of a predetermined exercise item with respect to each gene; setting weight corresponding to a frequency of each genetic type in the player group; and determining suitability about the predetermined exercise item of the user based on the weight set with respect to the genetic type matched with the genetic type of the user among the genetic types in the player group.
