An injection unit for a plastics injection machine includes a carrier block(10') supporting a plasticising unit(17) with a conveying screw, a stationary tool-carrying platen (35) and a spindle drive (A) comprising a non-rotating threaded spindle (31') fixed to the stationary tool-carrying platen (35) and a corresponding rotating collar (73) connected to the carrier block (10'). A hollow shaft motor (73) drives the rotating collar (73) to move the nozzle (D) against the mould (M). The carrier block (10') moves along a non-threaded guide length (31a') of the spindle (31').
