PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic hard disk substrate excellent in surface smoothness and surface roughness, which can be manufactured by simple operation at a low cost without necessitating a long time for polishing the surface. SOLUTION: Any of the following coating film-forming compositions is applied onto the surface of the magnetic hard disk substrate, and the coated film is then cured to form a coating film. The coating film-forming compositions are the one based on organopolysiloxane, the one obtained by mixing a high temperature-resistant solvent in ceramic particles, the one based on perhydropolysilazane and the one based on a pre-polymer prepared by reacting a low molecular weight glycidyl ether type epoxy resin in the presence of metal oxide powder.
