The invention relates to a conveyor for elongated objects such as logs and the like. Conveyors of this type have a plurality of parallel conveyor chains, which are synchronously driven by chain wheels mounted on a common axle. For the propulsion of the conveyor chains, such conveyors have hitherto been provided with a ratchet mechanism at the one end of the drive axle. According to the invention, the propulsion is instead effected by a device which acts directly upon one or more conveyor chains. This results, inter alia, in considerably lower torsion forces upon the drive axle, which can therefore be given more slender dimensions like bearings, etc. The force is transmitted from the chain or chains provided with propulsion members to the non-driven chains via the chain wheels and the common drive axle. <IMAGE> |
