PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backrest of a chair capable of holding an upper body of a seated person like the backrest wraps the upper body when the upper body of the seated person leans against a generally center position in a backrest width direction and further allowing a side edge support part to flexibly deform, thereby eliminating discomfort feel of the seated person when the upper body of the seated person leans against a right/left eccentric position, and to provide a chair.SOLUTION: The backrest of a chair includes in an upper side region than a portion formed with a fitting hole 33 of a side edge support part 32: a thinned back plate extension part 51 which is thinned in an outer side part in a backrest width direction on a rear face side and is continuous to a front face of a back plate part 31; and a reinforcement rib 52 protruding from an edge on an inner side in the backrest width direction of the back plate extension part 51 to a rear side. The reinforcement rib 52 extends along a generally vertical direction and has a cross section increased gradually on a lower edge side, and is connected with the portion formed with the fitting hole 33.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6 |
