PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for placing acoustic devices that are both rapid and cost-effective.SOLUTION: A laser 62 cuts overlapping ribbons 58 of an acoustic material 58 into acoustic devices. An automatically controlled manipulator 66 includes an end effector 60 having multiple groups of placement tools 68 for simultaneously placing multiple acoustic devices in a cellular core. The placement tools 68 include mandrels provided with vacuum pickups for picking up the acoustic devices and holding them during transport to the core. A vision system aligns the placement tools 68 with the cells of the core. The end effector 60 includes a thermal radiation device for bonding the acoustic devices to the core. |
