A fuel/oxygen burner 11 used for assisting the melting and subsequent refining of steel in an electric arc furnace is carried on a mounting including a chassis 10 mounted on castors and from which extend parallel arms 13, 14 pivoted between parallel levers 15 pivoted in turn to the chassis about a fixed horizontal axis X, rearward extensions of levers 15 being slidably engaged by trunnions 17 of an internally threaded block 18 on an adjusting screw 19 operated by means of a hand wheel 20 and bevel gearing 21. Rigid with each lever 15 is an outrigger bracket 22 and pivoted between them is a wishbone coupling 24 pivoted to trunnions 26 of an internally threaded block 27 on an adjusting screw 28 operated by means of a hand wheel 29 and bevel gearing 30. Connecting links 31 are pivoted to the brackets 22 at 32 and are connected by a cross-head 33 slidably pivoted to arm 14 while the rear ends of the links are connected by a cross-head 34 slidable in coupling 24. Hence the direction angle of the burner nozzle can be adjusted by means of wheel 20 and the vertical height by means of wheel 29.</p> |
