A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating diabetes by using a compound extracted from aril of nutmeg as an active ingredient is provided to prevent and cure diabetes and diabetic combination disease mediated by the PPAR gamma by activating the PPAR gamma as a lignand. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating diabetes comprises the extract by C1-6 organic solvent of aril of nutmeg as an active ingredient. The C1-6 organic solvent is selected from a group consisting of methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, butanol, acetone, ether, benzene, chloroform, ethyl acetate, hexane, cyclohexane, and petroleum ether.
