According to an embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus for correcting the position of a vehicle comprises: a traffic lane detection unit for detecting the traffic lane of the current road where the vehicle is being driven using information taken by an image photographing device installed on the vehicle; a position information generation unit for generating the current position information of the vehicle using the detected traffic lane; a position information reception unit for receiving the current position information of the vehicle from a global positioning system (GPS) installed on the vehicle; a road information map storage unit for storing information on the center of a width of lanes of each road at predetermined intervals; and a position correction unit for correcting the received current position information of the vehicle using the current position information generated by the position information generation unit, the current position information received by the position information reception unit, and information on the center of the width between the lanes stored in the road information map storage unit.
